Disaster Relief Grants in Ukraine

The Global Disaster Relief Grants for the crisis in Ukraine were approved on June 21.  Here is the latest update of those grants:

  1. This first Disaster grant for our district 5240 will provide money to manufacture tourniquets in Ukraine (there is currently a big demand on tourniquets).
  2. Our second Disaster grant will be led by Rotarian William Black from Bakersfield Rotary Club. William has already worked on it. He obtained the list with the prices, to supply 5 clinics in the region of Bila Tserkva, where they have more than 10,000 refugees from the war zone. We have an excellent contact Nita Hanson, NGO in Bila Tserkva (1 hour and ½ South of Kiev). The Rotary club of Kiev Balzac in Ukraine accepted to be our partner on this project. We decided to go to a multi-district disaster grant as $25.000 was not enough to provide for 5 clinics. William is already working with another district to partner on this project.
  3. And third project on the waiting list (we are hoping to be able to present it in September, as soon as the 2 other projects are finished) will be with Mediator Beyond Borders to implement training for peace and trauma in Ukraine. I talked with Ron from Canada yesterday (he was referred by Dana). I guess this third project will be also a Multi-District grant. Our ICC USA-Ukraine will be instrumental to find more districts interested in partnering.
