Members of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise joined volunteers across Rotary District 5240 on May 16 for Rotary’s EPIC Day of Service, a district-wide initiative highlighting Rotary’s commitment to hands-on community service.
Our club’s project took place at the beautiful Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens, where Rotarians partnered with City of Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation staff for a morning of gardening and park beautification. Led by club member Diana Washburn, volunteers laid cardboard for weed suppression and spread mulch in an area of the park that will be planted in the future.

The project brought together several club volunteers and provided an opportunity to care for one of Santa Barbara’s most treasured public spaces. It was also a special surprise to welcome former club member Betty Huff, who recently moved to Alabama and happened to be visiting Santa Barbara this weekend. Betty joined the project and spent the morning working alongside fellow Rotarians once again.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped showcase Rotary as People of Action through this impactful day of service.
