The Rotary Club of Ventura-South held their First Annual Speech-Off contest finals on May 17, 2018 in the Tower Club in The Topa Financial Center, Oxnard, CA. Students from three high schools in the Ventura Unified School District participated in a series of qualifying speech events culminating with the winners going head to head in the finals on the evening of May 17, 2018.
 
 
The theme of the event was "Civil Rights Movement during the 1950's and 1960's." The participants included freshmen Angela Tang and Kaitlyn Saldana from Buena High School, sophomore Joshua Cenzano from Buena High School and Seniors Alaina Hooks from Foothill Technology High School, Jonathon Saldana from Buena High School and Aspen Levitt from Ventura High School. The first place winners, each receiving a check for $1500.00, are freshman Kaitlyn Saldana, sophomore Joshua Cenzano and senior Alaina Hooks.
