The Rotary Club of China Lake (RCCL) is proud to announce the dedication of our first Little Library in Ridgecrest!
Stephanie Hudson, Community Service Director of RCCL District 5240 worked with Lieutenant Governor Judy Goad, Kiwanis District 33, to build, paint, fill, install, and dedicate this Little Library which now sits in front of Ridgecrest’s Oasis Family Resource Center/CAPK to promote literacy for the children of our community.
RCCL held a children’s book drive and encouraged local Rotarians to donate new or gently used children’s books to fill the little library and we enthusiastically collected over 250 books!
On May 6th, during Oasis Family Resource Center/ CAPK’s 5th anniversary ribbon cutting celebration, the dedication of the little library was made official.
Notice a bench sitting off to the side in the picture. That bench was another project for our club as we participated in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge and collected and recycled Ridgecrest’s plastic film. When we reached 1000 lbs., we were rewarded with a bench made of recycled plastic. This hard-earned bench was also donated to the center and sits next to the little library for visiting families to enjoy.
This collaboration between RCCL and Kiwanis also joined together several other non-profits in our community: Satellite Club of RCCL, CAPK Oasis Family Resource Center, and Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce.
Ridgecrest comes together to make things happen and make things better. Rotarians are a driving force in our community and we will continue to do good things for this town.
