On January 21st, 2026, a dedicated team of 8 Rotarians from District 5240 (California) and 1 Rotarian from District 5500 (Arizona) traveled to Colombia with one clear mission: to transform lives through service. This journey included participation in the 11th Rotary Projects Fair in Neiva, Colombia, where clubs connected, evaluated impactful initiatives, and strengthened international partnerships to expand Rotary’s mission around the world. But beyond the event, this was a mission of action, compassion, and real impact.

WHEELCHAIR PROJECT – TRANSFORMING LIVES

A total of 490 wheelchairs were distributed across Colombia, plus 30 specialized wheelchairs for paraplegic individuals. From the total distribution: • 30 wheelchairs were delivered in Medellín at the Comité de Rehabilitación de Antioquia. • The remaining wheelchairs were distributed across Tunja, Paipa, Duitama, and Neiva. • Tunja (Hospital San Rafael): Beneficiaries were carefully selected by the Hospital Director based on medical history and financial need, ensuring the support reached those who needed it most. Every wheelchair was personally delivered, creating a deep human connection.

This was not just a distribution—it was a life-changing experience. We had the privilege of visiting beneficiaries in their homes, witnessing firsthand how a wheelchair restores independence, dignity, and hope. Seeing these transformations was truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

A LARGE-SCALE EFFORT

This initiative was supported by the shipment of two containers of wheelchairs, representing an investment of approximately $116,000 USD, distributed across regions with significant need.

LEADERSHIP THAT INSPIRES

This impactful project was led by Diego Velásquez, International Projects Director, whose dedication has helped raise funds to deliver over 15,000 wheelchairs across 12 countries, creating a truly global impact.

ROTARY CLUB OF CONEJO VALLEY – SERVICE BEYOND BORDERS

This project is a powerful example of how Rotary brings people together across countries and cultures to create meaningful, lasting change. We didn’t just deliver wheelchairs… We delivered mobility, dignity, and a new way of living.

Rotary International, this is Service Above Self in action. This is the power of Rotary changing the world.
